Slightly soluble in water, soluble in ethanol, methanol, ethyl ether, chloroform, benzene, toluene, carbon disulfide, carbon tetrachloride and turpentine. It sublimated rapidly at 100 degrees and evaporated at the same time as steam. Benzoic acid is widely found in nature in the form of free acids, esters or their derivatives.
