Details

Hydroxyurea is an anti-cancer drug for chronic myelogenous leukemia. As early as the 1920s, it was observed that hydroxyurea could produce megaloblastic blood image similar to pernicious anemia and inhibit the production of white blood cells in rabbits. In 1963, it was discovered that it inhibited L1210 mouse leukemia. Hydroxyurea kills bacteria by inducing them to produce a molecule that is toxic to them.
